Brown Crab Working Group

Overview of BCWG

The Brown Crab Working Group (BCWG) was set up in 2024 to review the management of brown crab fisheries in Ireland and recommend to the Minister of Aqriculture, Food and the Marine management options that will aim to support the future sustainability of these fisheries.

The membership of the Brown Crab Working Group includes the Seafood Producer Organisations, the National Inshore Fisheries Forum, the Regional Inshore Fisheries Forums and the Irish Fish Producers and Exporters Association.

The Brown Crab Working Group also includes representatives from Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Marine Institute (MI), the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) and the DAFM. BIM chairs the group and provides secretarial support.
