Earlier in 2016 the West Regional Inshore Fisheries Forum (WRIFF) requested the support of the National Inshore Fisheries Forum (NIFF) for their proposal to introduce a minimum conservation reference size for velvet crab (Necora puber). This stock provides an important inshore fishery in many regions. With the support of NIFF this proposal was brought to Minister Creed, T.D. who has decided to proceed with a public consultation to allow all interested parties submit their views on the matter.
The consultation paper on the proposal and information on how to participate in the consultation process can be found in the link here.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 9th December, 2016.
